The parade on the Champs-Elysées
Even if you have little interest in the military, you’ll find yourself carried away by the spectacle, prestige and atmosphere of the Bastille Day parade on July 14th. Firstly, it’s always good to see the most beautiful avenue in the world totally free of cars. This perspective then lends itself wonderfully to the parade of regiments, some of which are particularly colourful, such as the French Foreign Legion and the Republican Guard. Finally comes the highlight of the show; the thrill of the Patrouille de France aerobatic team, whose Alpha Jets fill the skies above the capital with tricolour smoke plumes.
The fireworks display
What would Bastille Day be without its fireworks? The dynamic display launched from the Champs de Mars is simply sublime. The vast lawns of the park welcome the thousands of Parisians and visitors who can enjoy a picnic and an aperitif and relax while waiting for sunset. Then, the first multihued corollas of flame invade the sky, their illumination superbly emphasising the elegant lines of the Eiffel Tower and reflecting off the Seine. A prodigious show that we never tire of!
