The Orient Express is a legend and icon within itself. This long distance train first began transporting travellers in 1883 and continued providing services, right up to 2009. Travelling in style was key, and notable locations that the Orient Express passed through, were the cities of Cairo, Aswan, Paris and Istanbul. Many books, films and plays have been inspired by the Orient Express, for the luxury and deluxe it represented.
Within the exhibition, you'll be presented with various articles, including documents, photographs, posters and film installations, all giving a clear picture of what the Orient Express represented. You'll also be served dinner at the Institut du Monde Arabe (IMA), located inside one of the cars, by way of prestigious chef Yannick Alleno. This gastronomical fine dining is staged with the intention of recreating this historical period. The menu and the service given, all echo elements of a stylish and elegant past that was, at the time, a part of the golden age of travel.
